In the midst of turmoil, violence, and exploitation, it is easy to feel anxious about our ability to care for creation. During this season, Pope Francis encourages us to pray, “Lord, give me your peace. Give me the Holy Spirit,” and to pray for others, including national leaders. “May Our Lady help us to take in the Holy Spirit to be peacemakers.”
Jesus said to his disciples, "My peace I give to you, my peace I leave with you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27) No matter our current circumstances, Pope Francis reminds us to turn toward the peace of Christ, to be willing to listen to others, to listen to creation, and to ask ourselves, "How do I respond?"
This year marks the seventh anniversary of Laudato Si'. On Sunday, Pope Francis announced the inauguration of
Laudato Si' Week, May 22-29. Pope Francis declared this week as a
“time to listen ever more attentively to the cry of the earth, which spurs us to act together in caring for the common home.”
May these resources and initiatives help us to listen and spur us to action.
Peace and All Good,
